LOOK AT THE PHOTO GALLERY!!! NEW PICTURES FROM OUR SEPTEMBER, 2014, UTAH TRIP HAVE BEEN POSTED.
We had a wonderful meeting for three days in Utah on September 10th, 11th and 12th. Wonderful ceremonies. On Friday we took a “day trip”. We stopped at Fort Harmony, where John D. Lee met with some of the Indians with “bounty” from our wagon train; the little children also spent time at Fort Harmony. Then we went to Cedar City where we visited the museum. {there are many old wagons out back and I couldn’t help but feel some of these old wagons and wagon parts (and guns?) belonged to our wagon train}. Then to Leachy Spring, where William Aden and another young man, Abel Baker?? had made it to, attempting to get help during the seige. William was shot dead at the spring by mormon men he encountered. The other boy (Abel?) escaped, injured, and some say he made it back to the wagon train, but I doubt that. I can’t imagine they would have accepted the “white flag” offering and laying down their weapons, if they had known mormons were involved. I said a prayer and laid a memorial cross and red roses from Missouri at Leachy Spring in honor of William, who had never had a memorial of any kind to him. On Thursday, September 11th, we met at Mountain Meadows and dedicated the last two monuments. One was a monument we (Descendants) have worked to see come to fruition for over 12 years. It is the monument to the ten who died during the 5-day seige. Our people refused to follow the “white flag” out of their encampment to, what they believed was safety, until they buried them. This is how important it was to them to have a proper burial. How very sad and tragic to think they never got the same! The other monument was to the women, children and wounded at the upper northern end of the valley. We’ve worked so hard to see these things happen. To insure our kin are properly and forever remembered in an honest, respectable way, and that the lies and “justifications” concocted by their murderers are stomped hard and loud. WE WILL NEVER ALLOW THESE LIES TO STAND. I have to say it is the utmost betrayal and deceit to kill someone, and THEN to spend a tremendous amount of time and effort, and even lots and lots of MONEY, to try to justify your killing of innocent men, women and children with lies and manipulations!!! Most all of the evidence has been destroyed. That says “G-U-I-L-T” to me. It’s been 157 years but it doesn’t feel like it to me. Mountain Meadows is still under attack. Many acts of vandalism and theft have occurred at the massacre/burial site. Even the National Historic Landmark plaques have been defaced and attempts have been made to steal them. The LDS Church has finally put up a web cam, (after years of pleading and demanding by us) for security. However, as of this writing, they have not allowed us to link into it, so our people can observe what’s going on there. I’ll keep you informed, as I get more information…………
Thank you so much for your kind comments. We would LOVE to have you join our group! We are MMMD, not MMMF, tho. The MMMF is another group (Mountain Meadows MONUMENT FOUNDATION). I was a member of that group at one time, but saw quickly that the Direct Lineal Descendants of the Victims (I am a gggranddaughter of Captain Alexander Fancher) had no voice whatsoever on anything that was going on. I deemed that as inappropriate and WRONG, so the MMMMD, Mountain Meadows Massacre Descendants was born. We are extremely active in caring for, monitoring, researching and promoting the Voice of the Descendants and Family Victims. Historians and everyone interested in helping us are very, very welcome. Contact me directly at pat.norris1502@gmail.com for any questions.
